In 1987 a few Cellar Technology Old Boys from Elsenburg had the vision to initiate wine industry training for cellar assistants. The SKOP programme (Afrikaans for Senior Cellar Assistant Training Programme). The programme was presented During 1987 a few Cellar Technology Old Boys from Elsenburg Agricultural Technical Institute had the vision to initiate wine industry training for cellar assistants.
The first SKOP programme (Afrikaans for Senior Cellar Assistant Training Programme) kicked off later the same year.

The programme was presented under the auspices of EKOV (Elsenburg Cellar Technology Alumni Association) from 1987 until 2005 when Wine Training SA (WTSA), a Non-Profit organisation was founded with EKOV and The Cape Winemakers Guild Trust as members.
EKOV, the custodian of the SKOP programme is a wine industry body in the South African Wine Industry with more than 500 alumni members, all qualified winemakers.
Following the partnership with the Cape Winemakers Guild in 2014, WTSA was enabled to create capacity to extend its training offerings. The company is accredited with FoodBev seta and offer Learnerships in Winemaking and Generic Management.
nder the auspices of EKOV (Elsenburg Cellar Technology Alumni Association) from 1987 until 2005 when Wine Training SA, a Non-Profit organisation was founded.

EKOV, the custodian of Wine Training South Africa is prominent in the South African Wine Industry and currently has more than 550 alumni members with among them, prominent winemakers in the wine industry.

Following the partnership with the Cape Winemakers Guild in 2014, Wine Training SA was enabled to create capacity to extend its training offerings.

WTSA strive to meet or exceed our learners’ expectations by continuously improving and updating the skills and resources needed for demand driven Education, Training and Development in the South African Wine Industry.

In order to achieve the vision, Wine Training South Africa will ensure the satisfaction of the client through:

  • Delivering skills training programmes and qualifications based on factual needs (based on sound research, benchmarking and gap analyses);
  • Creating solid partnerships with suppliers, collaborators, sponsors, and learners.
  • Ensuring dynamic, effective, flexible, responsive, and transparent management;
  • Work in partnership with learners and clients to enhance their respect and loyalty.
  • Building a solid reputation known for delivery, and sound values and ethics;
  • Ensuring the long-term sustainability of the enterprise (also with regards to enough funding); and
  • Ensuring visible and measurable success resulting in a ripple effect throughout the community (e.g. through throughput rates, training placement, BBBEE initiatives, and marketing).
